Texas Association of Administrators has recognized Besteiro Middle School and the Farmers’ Market. The article got picked up and shared statewide through the TASA Daily newsletter.
B.I.S.D. Farmer's Market
To educate students about nutritious, locally grown food, Brownsville ISD will host a Farmers’ Market for Aiken Elementary students in grades kinder through 5th and Besteiro Middle School students with perfect attendance.
The Aiken and Besteiro campuses are located adjacent to each other. Students will attend the Farmers‘ Market during their PE classes.
The students will use BISD “B” Bucks to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Information about the produce that will be on sale at the Farmers’ Market will be provided at an earlier date so that students can consult with their families regarding purchases and stay within their budgets. Students will each receive a minimum of $3 in “B” Bucks but they can earn additional bucks with good deeds and behavior.
Special thanks to the following organizations for their assistance with the BISD Farmers’ Market pilot-project: BISD Food & Nutrition Services, Brownsville Farmers’ Market, and Brownsville Wellness Coalition.
Here at Besteiro Middle School, we pride ourselves on going digital and preparing our students for success in college and their careers. An important part of that preparation includes allowing students to have regular access to computers and digital assignments.
Students who have been assigned digital classwork have the opportunity to work on their assignments in campus labs. Students have access to computers and assistance from technology specialists. So come on over and lets get working!
